ASHEVILLE, N.C. – With two seven-run innings, the Wofford baseball team cruised to a second-consecutive mercy rule win with an 18-7 triumph over UNC Ashville at Greenwood Field Wednesday evening. Wofford improves to 32-13 on the season while UNC Asheville drops to 16-22.

Six different Terriers took to the mound, with reliever
Holden Wilder (7-0) claiming the win. He tossed 1.1 scoreless innings with just a hit allowed and two punchouts.
Carter Bailey started for Wofford, throwing 2.0 innings with two runs allowed on one hit and one walk. The freshman notched two strikeouts.
Mike Eggert made his collegiate debut as the final arm, striking out the lone batter he faced for the first of his career.

Reliever Cole Bates (0-2) suffered the loss for the Bulldogs after 0.1 innings of work with four runs surrendered on four hits.

Wofford's offense was firing on all cylinders, securing 18 total runs on 17 hits. Each of the nine starting batters recorded a hit in the game, as
Lawson Hill and
John Dempsey led the way with three base knocks each, touting four and three RBI, respectively. Four Terriers collected two hits:
Nolen Hester,
Ryan Galanie,
Jack Renwick and
Zeb Roos. Hester drove home three runs while Galanie and Renwick secured two RBI each. One of Renwick's hits was a no-doubter long ball, his fifth of the season. Though notching only one hit,
Brennen Dorighi drove home two runs.
Brice Martinez added two walks to his hit, reaching three times total with an RBI.

Hill extended his hitting streak to 18 games with his offensive outburst. Dorighi and Hester kept their on-base streaks alive, extending them to 26 and 25 games, respectively.

Wofford was quick to gain the upper hand in the top of the first. After
Lawson Hill singled up the middle,
John Dempsey roped a double down the right field line to score Hill for the game's first run.
Jack Renwick then smacked a two-run home run to left field to give the Terriers a 3-0 lead.

The Terriers tacked on another in the top of the second. With the bases loaded,
Nolen Hester lifted a sacrifice fly to left field that plated
Gunnar Johnson, extending the advantage to 4-0.

UNC Asheville got on the board in the bottom of the second to cut the lead in half. A pair of wild pitches allowed two runs to score, making the margin 4-2.

The Bulldogs bounced back to claim the lead in the bottom of the fourth. A sacrifice fly and RBI double evened the score, and an RBI single put UNC Asheville in front. A two-run triple then made the score 7-4.

The newfound Bulldog lead had a short lifespan as the Terriers exploded for seven runs to pull back ahead in the top of the fifth.
Ryan Galanie ripped a single up the middle that scored two runs to bring Wofford within one. Later in the frame,
Brennen Dorighi went the other way with a two-RBI single to left to put the Terriers back in front. Hester singled to right to plate two more, giving the Terriers double-digits. Another run came across when Hill secured an RBI ground rule double, making the score 11-7.

Wofford opened the floodgates in the top of the sixth with seven more runs. The scoring began with a passed ball, which was followed by an RBI single from
Brice Martinez. A fielding error brought in another, and a bases-clearing triple off the bat of Hill scored three more. Dempsey capped the frame with an RBI single, making the lead 18-7.

The Wofford bullpen then locked down to secure the win, with
Mike Eggert notching the game's final out with his first career strikeout. The Terriers earned the mercy rule win 18-7.

The Terriers return home to Russell C. King Field Friday to open a weekend series against The Citadel with a doubleheader. The first game is slated for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
