Chloe Wanink Signs with Tindastoll Basketball Club in Iceland

Former Terrier standout returns to the hardwood after delving into coaching

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Former Wofford women's basketball star Chloe Wanink is renewing her playing career after a brief stint in coaching, as it was announced yesterday, July 19, 2022 that the guard has signed with the Tindastoll Basketball Club in Iceland. Wanink had served as an assistant coach with the University of Mary since the summer of 2020 while completing her master's degree.

"This opportunity means a lot," said Wanink. "Playing professionally overseas has been a dream of mine since playing at Wofford. I am extremely grateful to Dagger Basket Agency for helping me throughout this whole process and to Tindastoll for giving me the opportunity to live out my dream. My friends and family have been extremely supportive, and I know they're just as excited as I am for me to get back on the court!"

Wanink is one of 16 Terriers in the program's history to score over 1,000 points in her career, as the former All-SoCon sharpshooter compiled 1,789 career points to finish second on Wofford's all-time scoring list. Wanink was a three-time All-SoCon player, earning first-team recognition twice and second-team honors once while also being named to the all-freshman team.

A staple in the record books, Wanink is Wofford's all-time leading three-point shooter with 235 made triples in her career and a 41.7 percent shooting clip beyond the arc. Her 82.3 percent shooting rate from the charity stripe is also the best by a Wofford player for a career. No Terrier has played more games (121) or minutes (3,595). She holds the single-season Wofford records for three-pointers made (73) and three-point percentage (47.4) and also holds the Terrier mark for consecutive double-digit scoring games with 14 in the 2018-19 campaign. Wanink holds or shares five single-game records, most notably her 40-point performance against Western Carolina on Jan. 1, 2019, in which her 17 field goals also set a benchmark. Her eight made threes at Auburn on Nov. 6, 2019 set a record that stood on its own until her former teammate Jackie Carman tied the mark with eight of her own at UNCG on Feb. 3, 2022 this past season.

The Cameron, Wis. Native graduated from Wofford in 2020 with a degree in psychology and sociology. She then entered the coaching ranks that summer when she joined the coaching staff at the University of Mary, a Division II program located in Bismarck, N.D. As an assistant coach with the Marauders for the last two seasons, Wanink completed her master's degree in mental health counseling.

"I think coaching for a couple of years has given me a different perspective of the game that will help me on the court," added Wanink. "Coaching also made me realize just how much I missed playing basketball. I knew I had to at least try and play again, and I'm so happy I made that decision."

The Tindastoll Basketball Club features both men's and women's teams. Based in Sauoarkrokur, Iceland, Wanink's new squad plays in Iceland's D1 League, the top division of women's basketball in the nation.
