HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – On Friday and Saturday, the Wofford College men's and women's indoor track and field teams took part in the Marshall Invitational at the Cline Athletic Complex. The Terriers had eight first place finishes at the meet and new school records were set by
Ellie Sawicki in the shot put and
Jasmine Jefferson in the 400 meters.
Wofford's event winners included
Tanner Henry in the high jump,
Nevius Fisher in the long jump,
Christopher Sheppard in the triple jump,
Chase Edwards in the shot put,
Jasmine Jefferson in the 400 meters,
Zion Bennett in the 400 meters,
Grant Witherspoon in the 60-meter hurdles, and
Cameron Dalton in the 200 meters.
On Friday,
Tanner Henry won the high jump at 2.00 meters.
Dani Emmen was second in the weight throw with a distance of 13.19 meters. In the long jump,
Nevius Fisher took first place at 6.64 meters and
Christopher Sheppard was second at 6.55 meters.
Netanya Linares was fifth in the women's high jump at 1.63 meters.
Sebastian LaTorre was third in the pole vault clearing 3.70 meters. In the men's weight throw,
Jalen Belton was third at 12.86 meters and
Quin Goodson was fourth at 12.50 meters.
Demir Degirmenci was tenth in the 5,000 meters to conclude the day.
During the field events on Saturday,
Netanya Linares was fourth in the long jump at 5.52 meters.
Christopher Sheppard won the triple jump at 13.65 meters, with
William Brimm third in the event.
Ellie Sawicki took third place in the shot put at 12.93 meters, which broke the previous school record of 12.68 meters. The Wofford men took the top three spots in the shot put, led by
Chase Edwards at 12.89 meters.
In the running events on Saturday,
Mary Claire Ridgeway was seventh in the mile at 5:15.32. In the 400 meters,
Jasmine Jefferson broke the school record with a time of 56.49 as she took first place. For the men in the 400 meters,
Zion Bennett was first,
Conor Murphy second and
Robert Hilsman third.
Kerrington Johnson was second in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.79, while
Grant Witherspoon won the men's 60-meter hurdles in 8.58. In the finals of the 60-meter dash,
Ella Tennant was fifth,
Madeline McNinch sixth and
Georgia McDevitt eighth.
Cameron Dalton was fourth in the finals of the men's 60-meters at 7.07 and he won the 200-meters with a time of 21.93. In the 800-meters,
Will Berger was fourth overall at 1:58.58. in the 4x400 relay to wrap up the meet, the Wofford women were second and fourth, while the men's teams were second and third.
Overall in the standings, the Wofford men were first with 204 points and Marshall was second with 165 points. The Marshall women were first (165) and Wofford was fifth overall (52). Schools competing in the meet included Appalachian State, Dayton, Wright State, Marshall, Northern Kentucky, West Virginia, and Morehead State.
Up next for the Terriers will be the SoCon Indoor Championships on February 25 and 26 in Lexington, Virginia.
