JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Wofford women's basketball team played a close first quarter against the ETSU Buccaneers at Brooks Gym Thursday night, but a second-quarter stumble by the Terriers allowed the Bucs to pull away to an 83-45 win. ETSU opened the contest with a three-pointer, but the Terriers then embarked on a five-point run to take a lead, 5-3, at the 7:25 mark. The squads kept dueling, trading blows and the lead with
Rachael Rose going inside to put the Terriers ahead by two points (17-15) with 2:40 remaining. But the Bucs hit a three and closed the quarter with a layup to hold a close three-point edge, 20-17, entering the second.
In the second, Rose scored before a
Jackie Carman three to give Wofford a four-point lead (24-20) with 8:03 on the clock. But ETSU then clicked for a 15-point run to swing the margin to 35-24 in favor of the Bucs with 2:19 to go. ETSU opened the second half with a three, but
Helen Matthews responded with a layup to try and spark a Wofford comeback. But ETSU continued to roll, and Wofford could not climb out of the hole created by quarter two. The Bucs would outscore Wofford 43-19 in the second half en route to their 83-45 win.
