SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Sunday afternoon, the Wofford College women's tennis team won a hard-fought match against Appalachian State 4-3 at the Reeves Tennis Center. The Mountaineers won the doubles point by taking two of the three matches and then the Terriers won four of the six singles matches for the victory.
 
Breda Brennan and Emma Sorensen took the #2 doubles position by a 6-1 score. The Mountaineers countered with a 6-2 win at #1 doubles. The #3 doubles match saw the Terriers team of Catherine Blouin and Brianna Wilbur up 3-2 but the Mountaineers won the next four games for the 6-3 win which clinched the doubles point.
 
In singles, the Terriers won the first set in four of the six matches. Appalachian State won at the #4 position at 6-2, 6-3. Catherine Blouin picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win at the #6 position and then Lily Woods won 6-3, 6-4 at the #1 position to tie the match at 2-2. At #5 singles, Emely Kahrs won the first set 7-5 and added a 6-4 win to give the Terriers a 3-2 overall lead.
 
The #2 and #3 singles matches would each go to three sets to decide the match. At #3 singles, Brianna Wilbur lost the first set 2-6, but rallied for a 6-4 win in the second set. In the third set, she was down 2-3, but was able to take a 5-4 lead. Wilbur broke serve in the final game for a 6-4 win that clinched the match for the Terriers. Breda Brennan at #2 singles won the first set 6-4 and lost the second 6-4. She held a 5-4 lead before the Mountaineers took the set 7-5.
 
 "We did a great job of bouncing back after losing the doubles point," said head coach Krissy Hall. "We really dug deep and left it all out on the court in singles. I am extremely proud of our energy and fight today!"
 
Wofford has now won seven straight matches. It was also Krissy Hall's 100^th career win with the Terriers.
 
The Terriers (7-4) will play their next four matches on the road, beginning on March 3 at Belmont. The next home match will be March 24 against East Tennessee State.
