SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Russell C. King Field saw 23 innings of baseball Saturday, but the Wofford Terriers fell twice to Xavier in the doubleheader, 9-1 in game one and 5-2 in game two, which was a 14-inning affair. The Terriers fall to 14-4 with the results, and the Musketeers improve to 9-9.

GAME ONE
Â
Zac Cowan (3-1) suffered the loss for the Terriers after allowing five runs in 3.0 innings of work.
Matthew Marchal earned the start, pitching 5.0 innings of one-run, one-hit baseball and striking out seven.
Â
Musketeer reliever Justin Loer (2-1) gathered the win after 2.0 innings, allowing no runs on one hit.
Â
Aaron Thomas notched Wofford's lone multi-hit performance in the first game with a pair of base knocks.
David Wiley tallied the only RBI for the Teriers.

Xavier struck first in the second with an RBI triple for the 1-0 lead.
Â
Wofford bounced back to tie the contest in the fifth with
David Wiley's RBI single, making the contest 1-1.

The game remained a pitchers' duel until the eighth, when a two-run Musketeer homer put them in front, 3-1.

Xavier poured on six more in the top of the ninth to seal a 9-1 triumph in the day's first affair.

GAME TWO
Â
Luke Stephens (2-1) received the loss after surrendering four runs on nine hits in a career-high 5.0 innings of work, all in extras.
Coulson Buchanan was the Terrier starter, also pitching 5.0 innings with just a run allowed.
Lucas Mahlstedt tossed the middle 4.0 innings with no runs.

Xavier's Creighton Hansen (1-0) got the win after hurling the final 1.2 innings with no runs or hits given up.

Wofford's nine hits were dispersed between five batters. After reaching base twice in game one,
Trey Yunger added three hits and a walk in game two, and he knocked in both of Wofford's runs. One of those hits was his first-career home run.
David Wiley and
Brice Martinez each tallied two hits.

Trey Yunger opened the scoring for Wofford in the nightcap with his sacrifice fly in the third inning, making the score 1-0.

A solo homer in the fifth tied the score for Xavier at 1-1.

Both pitching staffs clamped down from there, sending the game to the 10
th. That was when Xavier pulled ahead in the top of the frame with an RBI single.

The Musketeer lead was short-lived however, as Yunger lifted his first-career homer in the bottom of the inning to level the affair at 2-2.

Three more scoreless innings followed, but in the top of the 14
th Xavier sent a three-run homer over the fence to pull in front, 5-2.

Wofford was unable to get anything across in the bottom of the inning, sealing a 5-2 defeat.

The squads will square off once more tomorrow afternoon in the series finale. Wofford looks to salvage the series and avoid a sweep with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch at Russell C. King Field.
