WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wofford baseball team gave the second-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons a fight early, holding a 4-3 lead after the fourth, but the Demon Deacons rallied Saturday evening and ultimately prevailed, 18-5, at David F. Couch Ballpark. The loss drops the Terriers to 31-11 on the season. Wake Forest improves to 36-6.

Terrier starter
Coulson Buchanan (4-4) suffers the loss after 5.0 innings of work, allowing six runs on seven hits with a strikeout. In total, seven different Terriers toed the rubber in the contest.
Ryder Moye turned in a scoreless inning of relief.

Wake Forest starter Rhett Lowder (9-0) earned the win after 6.0 innings with four runs (two earned) allowed on six hits and a walk.

Wofford was out-hit 15-8 on the day. But
Cameron Gill and
Brice Martinez led the way for Wofford with two hits apiece.
Ryan Galanie delivered a pair of runs batted in, both coming off his no-doubter home run.
Aaron Thomas also clubbed a homer in pinch-hit fashion. Martinez notched the other Wofford RBI in the game.

Wake Forest opened the scoring with a solo homer in the second and added another in the third for an early 2-0 lead after three innings of play.

In the top of the fourth, the Terriers hit a stride to take the lead. With
Marshall Toole on base,
Ryan Galanie played long ball himself, lifting a two-run no-doubter to left field to pull Wofford level. Later in the inning,
Cameron Gill singled to left, and the ball was misplayed, allowing
Dixon Black to race home for the lead.
Brice Martinez would single to right, plating Gill, to give Wofford a 4-2 advantage.

A sacrifice fly in the fourth pulled the Demon Deacons to within one, 4-3.

Two homers in the fifth allowed Wake Forest to regain the edge, 6-4.

The Demon Deacons began to roll in the sixth, scoring eight runs to pull ahead 14-4.

Wake Forest plated four more in the seventh to push their lead to 18-4.

Aaron Thomas added a pinch-hit home run in the top of the ninth to give Wofford a fifth run, but it was too little, too late. The Terriers fell at Wake Forest, 18-5.

Wofford will be back in action tomorrow afternoon against High Point in neutral site action. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. also at David F. Couch Ballpark.
