SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford outdoor track and field runner
Kerrington Johnson has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from May 3-9. The selection is made by the conference office.
Johnson scored 24.5 points for the Terriers at the SoCon Outdoor Track and Field Championships this week, winning three titles and setting two program records in helping Wofford to a second-place team finish, its third in the last four championships.
The Anderson, South Carolina, native picked up her first win in Tuesday's first track event, running the lead leg on Wofford's 4x100-meter relay, which won in 45.91 seconds. About 40 minutes later, she won her third straight SoCon title in the 100-meter hurdles, winning in 13.64 seconds. Later that afternoon, she claimed her second career SoCon title in the 400-meter hurdles, turning in a school-record time of 1:01.13. She helped set another program record in her final event of the day, running the third leg on Wofford's 4x400-meter relay, which took second place in 3:46.67.
A senior finance major, Johnson carries a 3.90 cumulative GPA. The Student-Athlete of the Week selection is her second this season, as she also took the honor on April 19.
Also nominated: Mary Brown (ETSU women's outdoor track and field), Anna Morgan (Furman women's golf), Brianna Teegarden (Mercer women's outdoor track and field), Andrew Bennett (Samford baseball), Lesley Green (Chattanooga outdoor women's track and field) and Zach Ketterman (Western Carolina baseball).
Johnson is the sixth Wofford student-athlete to be honored this season and the only one to be honored twice. Also honored were Kennedy Smith (volleyball), Lilly Hatton (women's basketball), Helen Matthews (women's basketball), Ryan Galanie (baseball) and Lucas Mahlstedt (baseball).
