SPARTANBURG, S.C. – College baseball website D1Baseball.com has released its annual positional rankings for players across the entire nation, with a pair of Terriers checking into the top 50. Senior slugger
Ryan Galanie was tabbed as the sixth-best first baseman in the nation, while senior catcher
Cameron Gill was named the 23
rd-best backstop in the country.
Galanie, a native of Mason, Ohio, made the transition over to first base this season after playing third last year, and he has not skipped a beat. Galanie is batting .423 on the season to lead the conference and rank 12
th in the nation. His 80 hits are ninth in the country, also a SoCon best, and are nine shy of Wofford's single-season program record. Along with his average, Galanie tops the league in RBI with 60, and his 14 home runs rank third. With a .725 slugging clip, he is second. He has also shown speed on the basepaths, swiping 17 bags. Galanie owns a .993 fielding percentage at first base this season.
Gill, a native of Alpharetta, Georgia, has served as the primary catcher for Wofford this season and has taken his game up to another level. He is hitting .384 on the campaign to rank third in the conference. His on-base percentage of .506 is second in the league behind only Galanie's .516 mark. Gill touts 53 hits and 35 RBI alongside a pair of long balls. He is slugging .457 and has displayed excellent speed for a catcher, stealing 14 bases in 17 attempts. A stellar defender behind the plate, Gill has only committed two errors all season for a .994 fielding clip, and he has thrown out nine runners attempting to steal.
As two of the best in the nation at their respective positions, the duo have aided in the Terriers posting a 34-14 overall record to this point in the season. Wofford is 9-6 in SoCon play. The Terriers are currently third in the standings, a game behind this weekend's opponent, Mercer. The pivotal three-game series against the Bears begins Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. at Russell C. King Field. The series serves as Wofford's final home games in 2023, with both Galanie and Gill being honored as part of Senior Day festivities in the Sunday finale at 1:00 p.m.
