SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced on Tuesday the Academic All-Conference teams for the 2023 spring season. Wofford had 71 student-athletes honored this spring, the highest number in school history.
All 10 SoCon institutions were represented on the team, which honored 475 student-athletes earning 595 spots from the sports of men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor track and field, rifle, wrestling, men's and women's golf, men's and women's outdoor track and field, men's and women's tennis, baseball and softball.
To be eligible for the academic all-conference team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average at the conclusion of the spring semester and were required to compete in at least one-half of their teams' competitions. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least three semesters at their institutions, making true freshmen and first-year transfers ineligible for inclusion.
Among Wofford teams, women's outdoor track each had 14 honorees. Women's indoor track had twelve, followed by baseball with eight and men's outdoor track with seven honored.
Samford led all schools with 86 spots on the academic all-conference team, followed by Western Carolina with 72 and Wofford with 71.
This is the 21
st year that the Southern Conference has named an Academic All-Conference Team by season.
