LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Wofford College men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed on Friday and Saturday at the Brant Tolsma Invitational hosted by Liberty University. Wofford had numerous top ten finishes, while a school record was set in the triple jump by
Sherika Christie.
On Friday,
Sherika Christie was first in the long jump at 5.93 meters while
Olivia Bagg (5.60m) was seventh and
Madeline McNinch (5.55m) was ninth. In the men's long jump,
Nevius Fisher was fourth at 6.79 meters and
Christopher Sheppard was seventh at 6.44 meters. In the men's 200 meters,
Cameron Dalton was third at 22.06 and
Zion Bennett was fourth at 22.07. For the women in the 200 meters,
Ella Tennant was fourth (24.67),
Jasmine Jefferson (25.02) was seventh and
Madeline McNinch (25.21) was eleventh.
In the field events on Saturday,
Olivia Bagg was sixth (1.58m) and
Ava Cooper (1.53m) was seventh in the high jump.
Jake Ross was third in the men's high jump at 1.88 meters and
Sebastian LaTorre was fourth in the pole vault at 4.15 meters. In the triple jump, Patrick Green was fifth at 13.82 meters for the men and freshman
Sherika Christie was second in 12.18 meters for the women as she set a new school record in her first meet.
During the Saturday track events,
Ella Tennant qualified first in the preliminaries of the 60 meters for the women and
Nevius Fisher qualified second for the men. In the 400 meters,
Zion Bennett was fourth (49.51) and
Conor Murphy (49.70) was eighth for the men while
Jasmine Jefferson (56.53) was second for the women.
Will Berger was ninth in the 800 meters at 1:59.23. In the 4x400 relays to end the day, the Wofford men's team of
Thomas Stamper,
Conor Murphy,
Archie Woodard and
Zion Bennett was second in 3:21.37.
The meet featured fifteen schools, including Appalachian State, Army West Point, Elon, Hampton, Liberty, Queens, Radford, Rio Grande, Sacred Heart, UNCW, USC Upstate, VCU, Western Carolina, William & Mary and Wofford.
After a weekend off, the Terriers will be back in action on February 2 and 3 at the Carolina Challenge in Columbia, S.C.
