SPARTANBURG, S.C. –Wofford's
Sherika Christie and Chattanooga's Lesley Green-Boyd claimed women's field and track athlete of the week honors, respectively, while Furman's Cameron Ponder and Samford's Brenden Vanderpool have been named the Southern Conference men's indoor track and field athletes of the week, respectively, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Selections were made by panels of the league's track and field coaches and included all competition from Feb. 7-13.
Wofford's Christie competed at the VMI Winter Classic in Lexington, Virginia, on Friday, winning the triple jump with a school-record mark of 12.61m. The St. Catherine, Jamaica, native is leading the SoCon by three feet in the event.
This is the second SoCon weekly award of her career and the fourth by a Terrier this season, joining
Ella Tennant and
Olivia Bagg. Christie was also the Southern Conference Field Performer of the Month for January.
The Wofford track and field team will be back in action on February 24 and 25 at the Southern Conference Championships hosted by VMI.
