Wofford continues its six-game road swing with a three-game set at VMI in a return to conference action. The Terriers are 16-6 (3-0) after a sweep of The Citadel last weekend to open SoCon play before falling in midweek action on the road at Winthrop. VMI enters the weekend at 12-14 (0-3) after suffering a sweep at Samford to start SoCon play before dropping a midweek contest at George Mason. The Keydets enter with a current four-game losing streak and are returning home for the first time since March 19. The all-time series between these foes dates back to 1997 and favors Wofford, 26-17. The Terriers claimed two-of-three last season at home to open SoCon play. VMI won game one before Wofford bounced back to take the final two contests.

SCOUTING THE KEYDETS
VMI is led by second-year head coach Sam Roberts. The Keydets lead the nation in stolen bases with 81. VMI ranks in the top 25 of the country in walks per nine (3.40), sacrifice flies (15), strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.79) and sacrifice bunts (22). Justin Starke, the SoCon Preseason Player of the Year, leads VMI offensively with a .384 batting average. Grayson Fitzwater has tallied a team-best 25 RBI. The Keydets boast a two-way threat in Trey Morgan, who has a .271 average at the plate with 21 strikeouts on the mound alongside a 6.03 ERA. Will Riley has been the top Keydet arm, posting a 3-1 record with a 4.74 ERA and 44 strikeouts. Marcus Van Alstine is the VMI closer and tied for the SoCon lead with six saves.

GOING ON THE OFFENSIVE
The Wofford offense has been almost unstoppable so far in 2024, totaling 250 runs through the first 22 games of the season, sixth most in the nation. At an average of 11.4 per game, the Terriers lead the country in scoring. This is aided by the country's best on-base percentage (.478) and batting average (.364) and 18th-most hits (273). Wofford has scored double-digit runs in every game but nine so far this season and outscored its opponents 250-215. It has been a balanced attack, as eight of the nine qualified Terrier hitters are batting over .300 with a pair of them sitting over .400.

BACK IN BLACK
Senior
Dixon Black is another transfer to make an immediate impact with the program. After spending his first two seasons with Monmouth, Black joined the Terriers last season to immediate success. The third baseman hit .315 with 73 total hits, 46 RBI, seven home runs and 14 stolen bases. He slugged .478 en route to a Second-Team All-SoCon selection at year's end. After a number change for this year, switching from No. 20 to No. 7, Black is enjoying another season of key contribution and is hitting .415 so far. He touts 34 hits with 30 runs scored and 37 runs driven in. He is slugging .732 with a .509 on-base mark and 19 walks drawn with five stolen bases. His RBI lead the league and rank 16th nationally. Black owns the sixth-best batting average in the SoCon, which is 46th in the nation. With four triples, he leads the conference and ranks fourth nationally. His on-base clip is 10th in the league, and his slugging mark is fourth. Black recorded his 200th career hit on Sunday, March 17, at the College of Charleston. After totaling 100 at Monmouth, he picked up his 100th at Wofford in that contest to reach the coveted milestone. Black has been honored twice by the SoCon this season, earning both Player of the Week (3/11) and Student-Athlete of the Week (3/27) honors.

HARE'S HOMERS
Junior transfer
Tyler Hare has been a key slugger for the Terriers since arriving from Georgia Tech. Hare owns a team-best eight home runs, third in the conference. This aids in his .766 slugging percentage, second in the league. He owns 26 RBI and adds in a batting average of .390 with 30 total hits and 24 runs scored. Alongside his long balls, Hare has knocked three doubles and a triple, and with 10 walks he boasts an on-base clip of .467. His average ranks 11th in the SoCon.

Wofford ranks among the conference and national leaders in many statistical categories. The Terriers lead the SoCon in batting average (.364), hits (273), on-base percentage (.478), runs (250), sacrifice bunts (22), scoring (11.4), slugging percentage (.557), strikeout-to-walk ratio (2.60), triples (13) and WHIP (1.39). Wofford is second in walks (141), ERA (5.19), fielding percentage (.980), hits allowed per nine innings (9.00), stolen bases (68), stolen bases per game (3.09) and walks allowed per nine innings (3.48). Wofford's stolen bases are fifth nationally, and the bunts are seventh. Owning one of the best offenses in the nation, the Terriers lead the country in batting average, on-base percentage and scoring. Wofford's 13 triples are second in the country, only one behind Louisville and Tennessee Tech each tallying 14. Wofford's total runs are sixth. Stout defensively, the Terriers have the 17th-best fielding clip in the nation.
