ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – In a rain-shortened People Golf Championship, the Wofford men's golf team tallied a 583 score to place in 12
th. Terrier fifth-year
Matthew Larkin led the way at 3-under to place in eighth.
Wofford opened the event with a 298 in round one before improving to a 285 mark in the second round, but with round three well underway, inclement weather hit the course and forced the rest of the round to be called off. After the event was shortened to two rounds, the Terriers finished with a 15-over score of 583 to place 12
th in the 22-team event hosted by conference foe Western Carolina.
Davidson secured the event's title in runaway fashion, carding a 21-under 547 to best second-place Drexel by 13 strokes.
Matthew Larkin topped the Terriers with a 139, 3-under par. After an opening-round 72, he improved to card a 67 in round two to secure his eighth-place result in the 128-player field. The finish is Larkin's 10
th top 10 of his career.
Wright State's Shane Ochs claimed low medalist honors with a 9-under score of 133. He narrowly prevented a Davidson sweep, as Wildcat Joshua Stewart finished one stroke behind in second.
Cedric Otten finished 3-over with a 145, carding scores of 74 and 71 to place tied for 37
th.
Will Jones tied for 59
th with a 148. Despite an opening 77, he turned it around in round two with a 71.
Harry Jones tied for 67
th with a 149 (77-72).
Jay Beach tied for 85
th with 152 (75-77), and rounding out the Terrier results is
Max Cranford in 93
rd with a 153 (78-75).
Wofford returns to action with the Linger Longer Invitational, hosted by Kennesaw State. The three-day event runs from Sunday, March 17 to Tuesday, March 19, in Eatonton, Georgia.
