LEXINGTON, Ky. –
Cameron Dalton from the Wofford College men's track and field team competed at the 2024 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field East preliminary competition held at the University of Kentucky on Wednesday evening.
Dalton, a junior from Eden, North Carolina, ran in the fourth of six heats of the 200 meters. Starting in lane nine, he was fifth in the heat in a time of 20.96, which was 31
st overall of the 46 finishers.
The top three from each heat, plus the next six fastest times advance to the quarterfinals on Friday at 7:50 p.m. Jamarion Stubbs of Alabama State was the top finisher in 20.02. Twelve of the 24 competitors to advance in the 200 meters were from the SEC.
This season Dalton won the 100 and 200 meters at the 2024 Southern Conference Outdoor Championship. His time of 10.56 in the 100 meters was a new school record, while his 20.64 in the 200 meters was a school and SoCon meet record. Dalton also won the 200 meters at the 2024 SoCon Indoor Championship. He qualified 32
nd in the region and was the third student-athlete from the men's team to compete at the regional, joining Isaiah Ellis (2019 and 2021) and
Tanner Henry (2021 and 2023).
The top twelve qualifiers out of the two regions (24 total) will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 5-8 in Eugene, Oregon.
This is the sixth straight season that the Terriers have advanced at least one participant to the NCAA East Preliminary. Jasmine Jefferson will compete in the women's 400 meters for Wofford on Thursday evening.
