Wofford Volleyball Receives AVCA Team Academic Award

Program secures ninth consecutive honor

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced today that a record number of more than 1,400 collegiate and high school volleyball programs have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT. The Wofford College volleyball program is among the recipients of the honor for maintaining academic excellence during the 2023-24 academic year.

The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale. With a 3.43 team GPA for 2023-24, the Terriers have secured the award for a ninth-straight year dating back to 2016.

Highlighting Wofford's academic accomplishments, six Terriers were represented on the 2023 Fall Southern Conference All-Academic Team, which recognizes student-athletes who carry at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA at the conclusion of the fall semester while having competed in at least one-half of their teams' competitions. Sarah Barham, Addison Foote, Emily Hodsdon, Millie Loehr, Sarah MacLean and Mary Emily Morgan were the honorees.

Those six student-athletes were among 15 total Terriers recognized on the 2023-24 Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll, which consists of student-athletes who participated in varsity sports and posted a 3.0 GPA or higher, were eligible the entire academic year and were members of the final squad lists. Alongside the six all-academic team honorees, Carson Eubanks, Laney Klika, Bri Mahoney, Emily Normand, Taylor Pecht, Caroline Przystup, Abbey Richman, Elise Schneider and Mad Wilson all received academic honor roll recognition.

A trio of Terriers – Loehr, Pecht and Foote – earned the Commissioner's Medal, which is awarded to student-athletes who attain a GPA of 3.8 or higher throughout the year. Loehr claimed it in style by maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Loehr, along with Morgan, earned CSC Academic All-District recognition. Morgan was also the recipient of the SoCon's Pinnacle Award, which is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA on each championship team.

Wofford's academic successes paired with a historic on-court season to mark an incredible year for the Terriers. With a 23-8 overall record and 11-5 SoCon clip, the Terriers won the 2023 Southern Conference Tournament championship and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the first time ever. Wofford will return to the court this fall aiming to defend its title. The 2024 season opens on August 30 with a pair of matches in Auburn, Alabama, in Auburn's Tournament. The season opener will see the Terriers face former SoCon foe Georgia Southern.
