SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College's Dr. Jameica Hill has been named the 2024 NCAA Division I Faculty Athletics Representative of the Year by FARA, the Faculty Athletics Representatives Association. Each year the association honors one member in each of the three divisions for this recognition.
Dr. Jameica Hill, associate provost for administration and professor of chemistry, is in her 19th year as the FAR. She is responsible for certifying the eligibility of student-athletes and assuring integrity in the eligibility process. In addition to supervising athletics policies, she serves as a liaison between the faculty and the student-athletes, looking out for their individual well-being with regard to academics and athletics. She served as the President of the Southern Conference from 2017 to 2019 and is currently chair of the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Committee.
A 1988 graduate of Wofford College, Hill earned her Ph.D. degree in inorganic chemistry at Clemson University, where she was a graduate teaching assistant of the year. She received Wofford's 1995 Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award and has served as the associate director for a summer science program for middle and high school students that was funded by a grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Center. Hill serves as treasurer for her church and is an inaugural member of the African-American Leadership Council of the United Way of the Piedmont.
FARA is the Faculty Athletics Representatives Association, the professional association for faculty athletics representatives (FARs). FARA is the collective voice of faculty athletics representatives in all three NCAA divisions. It is FARA's role to advocate for faculty athletics representatives and to represent their concerns at the national level. All NCAA FARs are automatically enrolled as members of FARA.
All award recipients will be acknowledged at the 2024 Awards Dinner at the FARA Annual Meeting on November 14 in Dallas, Texas.
