SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced its weekly softball awards on Monday afternoon, with Wofford's Margaret Axelson tabbed as the SoCon Pitcher of the Week. The awards are selected by the league office.  

Axelson, a junior from Atlanta, Georgia, was stellar in the Terriers' first weekend of the season. Between the two games Alexson pitched, she tossed two complete games of 14 innings with only two earned runs given up. The Wofford right-hander accumulated 11 strikeouts with no walks allowed during the two games and received both wins. Axelson held the preseason A10 favorites Dayton to just two runs on four hits as shs outdueled the Flyers' ace to secure Wofford's first ever tournament championship. 

"It's a great honor for Margaret to be rewarded for her efforts in the circle," said head coach Chelsea Butler. "This pitcher of the week award is a snapshot of our weekend, and we are excited for what's ahead!" 

The ace of the Terrier staff has picked up right where she left off from last season, after she finished her 2024 season with a 9-6 record and a 2.16 ERA over 124 innings pitched. This is Axelson's second pitcher of the week honor in her career, earning her first in the first week of the 2024 season as well.  

Wofford softball will return to action Friday, February 14, as they travel to DeLand, Florida, for the first road contests of the season. They take on Bethune-Cookman at 9:30 a.m. and Stetson University at 3:00 p.m.
