SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College and AFL have announced the Student-Athlete Leaders of the Month for January. The month's honorees are
Helen Matthews from the women's basketball team and
Robbie Young from the men's tennis team.
Matthews, a fifth-year senior from Kaiapoi, New Zealand, has started 19 games for the Terriers this season and helped the team to a 6-1 start in SoCon play. After missing last season due to injury, she is averaging 11.6 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game, along with 38 assists and 20 steals. A double major in international affairs and sociology and anthropology, she has been named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll and the CSC Academic All-District Team.
Young, a senior from Greenville, S.C., is playing #1 singles and #1 doubles for the Terriers this season. Last season he earned second-team All-Southern Conference honors with a 10-6 overall record in singles. He was named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll and the CSC Academic All-District Team.
