SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference has announced the results of its preseason baseball balloting as voted on by the league's eight coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players or teams. Eight Terriers were selected to the preseason all-conference teams with three on the first team and five on the second team. Wofford was picked third in the conference.
Â
The eight selections for the Terriers are the most for any team in the league. Preseason first-place pick UNCG is the closest team with six honorees. The preseason all-conference teams featured six ties in the balloting, expanding the number of honorees. With three first-place votes, the Spartans totaled 40 points to be named preseason favorites to win the league. Samford also notched three first-place votes but totaled 38 points to place second. Wofford and ETSU each recorded a first-place vote, with the Terriers selected third with 34 points. ETSU and Mercer tied for fourth with 30 points each.
Â
Wofford's three first-team honorees are
Kenny Michaels,
David Wiley, and
Andrew Mannelly. The five on the second team are
Dylan Rhadans,
Alec Bouchard,
Champ Davis,
Lucas Manning, and
Tyler Hare.
Â
Michaels, a sophomore left-handed pitcher, earned a spot on the first team as a reliever. In 18 appearances last season, 17 in relief, Michaels posted a 4.78 ERA and a 3-2 record. He notched a pair of saves in 49.0 innings of work, striking out 58 batters while issuing just 25 walks. Michaels concluded last season as a SoCon All-Freshman Team honoree.
Â
Wiley was one of the two Terriers represented in the first-team outfield. He hit .285 in 58 games with 54 starts. Wiley totaled 51 total hits with 14 doubles and seven round-trippers. The senior scored 50 runs while driving home 37, and he swiped 11 bags on the basepaths. Stout in the classroom, Wiley was the Pinnacle Award winner at the SoCon Tournament as the holder of the highest GPA on the championship team.
Â
Mannelly joined Wiley as a first-team outfield selection. The junior lefty hitter posted a .301 average over 48 games with 46 starts, tallying 50 hits. Mannelly notched nine doubles and seven homers. He drove home and scored 50 runs and swiped eight bases. Mannelly made history last season when he was honored on the Chapel Hill Regional All-Tournament Team, the first such honoree in program history.
Â
Rhadans is the first of Wofford's second-team representatives as a starting pitcher. The senior southpaw owned a 1-0 record last season over 20.0 innings of work in 11 outings, four starts. He struck out 27 batters with just nine walks allowed.
Â
Bouchard is one of the two Terrier relievers selected on the second team. The sophomore righty led the team in saves last season with five. He added a 7.36 ERA in 23 total appearances, four starts, with 40.1 innings of work. Bouchard recorded 38 punchouts while issuing only eight free passes.
Â
Davis joined the Bouchard as a bullpen nod, posting a 7.66 ERA last season. The right-handed junior was 3-1 last season over 22.1 innings with all 14 of his outings in relief. Davis secured one save, which came in Wofford's first-ever regional win over LIU. After changing his arm slot to resounding success, Davis featured heavily in Wofford's run to the SoCon championship and regional appearance. He notched 15 strikeouts to eight walks.
Â
Manning split time between catcher and DH last season, and he enters 2025 as a second-team honoree at catcher. The junior hit .343 with 37 hits, 39 runs, and 20 RBI in 50 games of action with 28 starts. Manning totaled six doubles and a pair of triples. With 13 steals, he is the team's returning leader in swiped bags.
Â
Rounding out the Wofford honorees is the senior Hare, who was selected at first base. Hare started all 62 games there last season, hitting .315 with a .518 slugging clip. His 16 long balls paced the team, and he added 63 RBI with 58 runs scored. Of his 70 hits, 27 went for extra bases as alongside his 16 round-trippers he posted a triple and 10 doubles.
Â
The Terriers were 42-20 last season with a 12-8 SoCon clip en route to a SoCon Tournament title and subsequent NCAA Tournament berth. Wiley, Rhadans, and Hare highlight a returning senior class that also features
Michael Sills,
Grant Comstock,
Braden Hofmeyer, and
Adam Haber. The Terriers return 24 players in total and welcome 27 newcomers to the squad as they look to build on another historic season at Russell C. King Field. The 2025 season opens at home next Friday, February 14, with a 5:30 p.m. first pitch against Ohio.
