SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Wofford College softball team (3-1) earned two wins on day two of the Terrier Invite at Hope Field. The Terriers outlasted Youngstown State 5-3 to end round robin play and then defeated Towson 9-1 to earn a spot in the championship game of the Terrier invite. Â
Game 1Â
Freshman pitcher Natalya Salo earned her first career start and first career win today against Youngstown State, tossing a complete game while only giving up two runs on four strikeouts. The Terrier offense struck in the first inning with a Hope Ingle single, which drove in two runs. Then the Terriers would add to the total in the third with a Brianna Stanley RBI single and a Kaytlin Greenwood single, which drove in an additional two runs and extended Wofford's lead to 5-0. The Penguins would claw a run back in the fourth inning and scored another run in the sixth. However, freshman Natalya Salo would shut the door with the bases loaded in the seventh to seal the victory for the Terriers. Â
Game 2Â
Abby Greenwood got the start against Towson and pitched all five innings to earn the win with five strikeouts. The Wofford offense would get out of the gates hot with a three-run home run by Hope Ingle to straight away center field to get the early 3-0 lead. This is the first Wofford home run of the year and the first since May 8, 2024. The Terriers would add to the lead the next inning with a Kate Platte bunt RBI single and a Rivers Sampson two RBI bunt single which extended the lead to 6-0 after two. The offense would pick up again in the fourth with a Brianna Stanley bases clearing three RBI single to finish out Wofford's offensive day with nine runs. Towson would grab a run back in the fifth inning, but it was not enough to escape the run-rule at the end of the fifth inning. This is the first run-rule in program history. Â
Wofford will return to action tomorrow, February 9, as they take on Dayton for the Terrier Invite championship game. First pitch will be at 10 a.m. at Hope Field. Â
