SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College football team returned to the field on Tuesday night to open spring practice. It was the first of fifteen scheduled practices for the Terriers.
On the first day, the Terriers worked out in helmets on the lower practice fields for nearly two hours. The practice focused primarily on the fundamentals on both sides of the ball.
"We are looking forward to seeing the new players we brought into the program," said head coach
Shawn Watson. "We brought 14 new guys in, and I think they are going to help us become a better football team. We are also working with our younger players, as we have had really good freshmen and sophomore classes, and we are seeing their development. It's also going to be awesome to have the leadership that we have out here with the older guys. The offensive line brings a lot of guys back, and there is a lot of veteran leadership there. We've had a really good winter, and we're just excited to see us play some football."
A group of six players are returning for their fifth year with the Terriers. Included are offensive linemen
Quincy Hughes and
Ben Marler, defensive linemen
Seth Foster and
Brandon Maina, safety
Maximus Pulley, and linebacker
Benny Radicia.
The team welcomes a total of 12 transfers who are participating in practice, including quarterbacks
Jayden Whitaker and
J.T. Fayard. Freshman quarterback
Ethan Drumm and freshman offensive lineman
Reggie Houston enrolled for the spring semester and are taking part as well.
The Terriers will return to the field on Thursday and Saturday to complete the first week of practice.
