HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Wofford baseball team dropped a pair of contests Saturday afternoon at Williard Stadium to the High Point Panthers. The Terriers lost game one 9-3 before falling 15-6 in the closer. Wofford moves to 25-20 as High Point improves to 30-14.

Game One
Alec Bouchard (1-1) made his first start of the season but suffered the loss after giving up five runs in 3.2 innings of work. He struck out five in the contest, one short of his career high.
Kenny Michaels pitched the final 4.1 frames with four runs allowed and five strikeouts as well.

High Point's Dylan Story (6-2) earned the win as the starter after pitching 6.0 innings with three runs (one earned) allowed. Howell Polk (2) secured a save by hurling the final 3.0 frames with no runs.

Ben Timblin led the Terrier offense with three of Wofford's five hits. It was a career high for the freshman, which included a double.
James Layman and
Hunter Herndon collected the other two base knocks with Layman's being a solo home run. It was the first long ball of his career and led to the only Wofford RBI of the game. Timblin added a steal to tally one alongside
Tanner Hardin and
Ryan Wynn.

Wofford struck first in the third when a throwing error enabled
Tanner Hardin to score. A wild pitch then brought home
David Wiley for a 2-0 Terrier lead.

In the bottom of the third, HPU pulled within 2-1 after a solo home run.

Another homer in the fourth leveled the score before three more runs crossed home to push the Panthers in front 5-2.

James Layman lifted the first long ball of his career in the top of the sixth to bring Wofford within 5-3.

However, HPU scored two runs in both the sixth and eighth frames and kept Wofford off the board in the final three innings to clinch the series with a 9-3 win in game one of the day.

Game Two
Five pitchers toed the rubber for Wofford with
Austin Laughlin making his first-career start, throwing 2.0 strong innings with a pair of punchouts and three runs allowed.
Carter Rasmussen (3-1) took the loss in relief after surrendering four runs in 2.2 frames of action.

Adam Grintz (5-0) earned the win in relief for HPU after 3.2 innings with two runs allowed. Dalton Olsovsky (2) notched a save by throwing the final 3.0 frames.

Wofford accrued nine hits in the game with
Ryan Wynn amassing a third of them. One of his three knocks was a double, and he added an RBI and a walk.
James Layman totaled two hits with a double, and
Ben Timblin doubled for his lone hit.
David Wiley added a triple to mark the 10
th of his career, making him just the fifth Terrier ever with 10 career triples. Timblin and
Hunter Herndon led the team with two RBI each.
Lucas Manning also had one. On the bases,
Adam Haber notched a steal.

The Panthers struck first in the bottom of the first with an RBI double, claiming a 1-0 edge.

HPU extended its lead in the second with a two-run homer, making the margin 3-0.

The Terriers broke through in the top of the third.
David Wiley opened the frame with a triple and scored on
Ryan Wynn's RBI single.
James Layman doubled, and
Ben Timblin clubbed a two-bagger of his own to push across a pair and tie the game. After a sacrifice bunt,
Hunter Herndon's RBI groundout scored Timblin for the 4-3 edge.

The Panthers wasted no time in responding, using an RBI double in the bottom of the third to even the score at 4-4.

Wofford pulled back in front in the top of the fifth. After a Wynn double, a pair of walks loaded the bases for Herndon, who ripped a single back up the middle to push one home.
Lucas Manning then added one more with an RBI groundout, making the lead 6-4.

The pendulum swung once more in the bottom of the fifth, favoring HPU this time. A throwing error on a steal of third enabled the Panther runner to come home, and later in the frame a two-run home run pushed HPU ahead 7-6.

A big seven-run inning in the bottom of the sixth stretched the Panther lead to 14-6. Another run in the eighth brought the score to its final margin of 15-6.

Wofford returns to action on Wednesday, April 30, for another road tilt against a Big South opponent, facing Winthrop. First pitch in Rock Hill is set for 6:00 p.m.
