Wofford College Holds 2025 Commencement

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College conducted its 171st annual Commencement Exercises on the lawn in front of Main Building on Sunday morning. During the event, the college awarded 452 Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees. The graduates included nearly 100 student-athletes receiving degrees in May, August, and December.
 
The college presented the prestigious Algernon Sydney Sullivan and Mary Mildred Sullivan awards. The Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award went to James Moon V (student recipient) and Dr. Russell W. Booker (non-student recipient). The Mary Mildred Sullivan Award went to Hope Moreno (student recipient) and Dr. Loreta Dylgjeri (non-student recipient). Moon is a biology major from Greenville, South Carolina, who returns to Greenville after graduation to attend medical school. He chaired the Judicial Commission and has been a student-athlete on the cross country/track and field teams.

Ten Honor Graduates were recognized for earning a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout their college careers, including three student-athletes: Havalynn Abernathy (softball), Promise Henry (cheerleading), Diego Reyes (men's soccer).
 
The Phi Beta Kappa induction ceremonies were held on May 1. Student-athletes in the group included: Hayden Fredericks (women's soccer), Maggie Jackson (women's golf), Diego Reyes (men's soccer), and Mary Claire Ridgeway (women's cross country/track).
 
Also on Friday, May 16, the college's annual Honors Convocation was held in the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. Academic departments recognized their outstanding students, and a variety of other leadership and citizenship awards were presented during the event. Student-athletes recognized included:
 
Art History: Maggie Jackson (women's golf)
Computer Science, the Dan W. Olds Award: Diego Reyes (men's soccer)
English, the L. Harris Chewning Award: Brianna Wilbur (women's tennis)
Environmental Studies, the John Harrington Award: Ben Marler (football)
Intercultural Studies: Havalynn Abernathy (softball)
The Outstanding Citizen Award: Promise Henry (cheerleading)
The "Heart of the Terrier" Leadership Awards: James Moon (men's cross country/track); Marga Van Der Linde (women's cross country/track)
The Arthur B. and Ida Maie S. Rivers Award: Carolyne Shealy (women's cross country/track)
 
Members of Wofford College's Class of 1975 celebrated their 50th reunion during Commencement Weekend.
