SPARTANBURG, S.C. – In the 14
th round of the 2025 Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft, Wofford right-handed pitcher
Carter Rasmussen was selected by the Boston Red Sox with the 418
th overall pick Monday evening.
Â
Rasmussen appeared in 19 games during the 2025 season with one start. Over his 47.2 innings of work, the junior compiled a 6-2 record with a 3.21 ERA, adding four saves. He struck out 63 batters while allowing only 16 walks, and opponents hit just .229 against him. He led the Terriers in wins, strikeouts, saves, and appearances for the campaign, and his four saves ranked fifth in the Southern Conference.
"We are incredibly proud of Carter and thrilled to see him get selected today in the MLB Draft," said head coach
J.J. Edwards. "He represented Wofford well all season on and off the field, and he worked exceptionally hard to be the best player he could be. Carter is highly deserving of this opportunity, and we are excited to see what his future holds."
Â
A native of Justin, Texas, Rasmussen was the only Terrier this season to be named as an all-conference performer, garnering Second-Team All-SoCon recognition. He added a SoCon Pitcher of the Week nod on May 12. The 2025 season was his lone campaign with Wofford after beginning his collegiate career at Brown.
Â
This is the second draft selection under Edwards and the 20
th in the history of the program. Wofford has had a player selected in now three consecutive drafts with Ryan Galanie (13
th round, Chicago White Sox) going in 2023 and
Marshall Toole (15
th round, New York Yankees) being picked last year. Rasmussen is the first Terrier pitcher to be selected in the MLB Draft since Hayes Heinecke in 2021, who was picked by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 13
th round.
Â
Rasmussen is the second Terrier ever drafted by the Red Sox, joining Will Stillman in the 29
th round of the 2015 draft. Boston's High-A affiliate is the local Greenville Drive, who play at Fluor Field, the host site of the Southern Conference Tournament.
