SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference has released its academic honor roll for the 2024-25 academic year, with 2,734 student-athletes from the 10 member institutions and nine associate members earning the distinction. Wofford had a school-record 314 student-athletes recognized, topping the school record of 285 set in the 2021-22 academic year.
The academic honor roll originated in 1988-89, when SoCon athletic directors established the award as a way to recognize the league's outstanding student-athletes. The academic honor roll consists of student-athletes who participated in varsity sports and posted a 3.0 grade point average or higher, were eligible the entire academic year and were members of the final squad lists.
"We are extremely proud to celebrate an epic year for academic achievement across the Southern Conference," SoCon Commissioner Michael Cross said. "With 2,734 student-athletes earning recognition on our Honor Roll, our member institutions continue to demonstrate their unwavering commitment to academic excellence. The 288 student-athletes who achieved perfect 4.00 GPAs and the 846 who earned Commissioner's Medals represent the pinnacle of what it means to be a scholar-athlete. These outstanding individuals, along with the dedicated faculty, academic advisors, and support staff who guide them, embody the values that make the SoCon a leader in combining athletic competition with educational achievement."
Of this year's qualifiers, 846 earned the Commissioner's Medal, awarded to student-athletes who attain a GPA of 3.8 or higher throughout the year, and 288 posted perfect 4.0 GPAs.
