SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College softball team defeated USC Upstate 12-9 on Tuesday evening at Hope Field. The Terriers used six runs in the fourth inning to help seal the game. Wofford improves to 14-1 on the year, including wins in its last 12 games.

Natalya Salo earned the win, improving to 3-1 this season. Salo threw 6.2 innings with two strikeouts.
Margaret Axelson got the last out of the game to get her first save of the season. Axelson struck out the final batter for USC Upstate.
Kate Platte went a perfect 3-of-3 from the plate with two runs scored and two RBI.
Lauren Archambault tallied two hits and three RBI.
Gracie Parker had two RBI as well.
Addison Lucier,
Rivers Sampson,
Kalli Petty, and
Kaytlin Greenwood all finished with one RBI. Sampson had three hits as well.

USC Upstate got the scoring started in the first inning, taking an early 2-0 lead. Wofford answered in the bottom half of the stanza with three runs, however. An error by the Spartans scored the first run, followed by a two RBI double from
Lauren Archambault to drive in
Kalli Petty and
Brianna Stanley. Holding a 3-2 lead in the second inning, Wofford was able to add two more runs in the third. A single through the right side from
Addison Lucier scored
Abbi Campbell.
Rivers Sampson closed the second inning with an RBI double to score Lucier.

In the fourth inning, USC Upstate was able to tie the game at five-all. Wofford answered again, scoring six runs to stretch the game out to 11-5.
Kalli Petty started it off with a single to score
Kate Platte. Another single from
Lauren Archambault drove home
Rivers Sampson, and
Gracie Parker would find two RBI after a single up the middle. A double from
Kaytlin Greenwood scored
Madison Thieke.
Kate Platte ended the big inning with a sacrifice fly to score
Gracie Parker. The Spartans found one run in the sixth inning, but
Kate Platte responded with an RBI single to give Wofford a 12-6 lead. In the final inning of the game Upstate was able to score three runs. Wofford ended the comeback short, however, earning a 12-9 win.

The Terriers will be back in action on Friday, February 27, as the team will compete in the Tiger Invitational at Clemson University. Wofford will take on Mississippi State, Clemson, and Georgia Southern over three days of action.
