SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford softball team totaled 20 runs in two games to start the season 2-0 at Hope Field in the third-annual Terrier Invite. The Terriers defeated Kent State 11-1 in a five-inning affair before taking down Monmouth 9-4 to close the night. The Terriers start the season 2-0 for the first time in program history.

"It's awesome to start like this," said head coach
Chelsea Butler. "Winning is hard and winning in different ways is even harder. I think from game one to game two we found different ways to win and show up for each other. Team Three fights, and we are ready to go."

GAME ONE
Senior pitcher
Margaret Axelson got the start in the first game of the 2026 season, throwing three innings to earn the win against Kent State. Axelson struck out two batters, while allowing one run on one hit.
Sydney Baker pitched the final two innings, totaling two strikeouts and no runs.
Lucy Cameron led the offensive attack with two hits, one run, and two RBI.
Gracie Parker followed behind with a triple and two RBI, while
Desirae Devine also had two RBI.
Brianna Stanley hit a solo shot to deep center field, as the sophomore totaled two hits and three runs. Â

It was a busy first inning for the Terriers, as
Kate Platte scored first to get Wofford on the board early.
Kaytlin Greenwood reached home on a wild pitch, followed by
Lucy Cameron driving in a run with a single through the left side. Another wild pitch scored
Lauren Archambault.
Gracie Parker ended the first inning with a two RBI triple as Wofford led 6-0.

The Terriers kept Kent State scoreless in the top of the second inning and totaled another four runs in the bottom of the inning.
Kaytlin Greenwood started the scoring, along with a two-RBI single from
Desirae Devine.
Lucy Cameron found her second RBI on a single to right field to put the Terriers up 10-0 at the end of the second inning. Kent State found its first run of the game in the third, but
Brianna Stanley answered in the fourth inning with the team's first homerun of the year. Wofford shut out the Golden Flashes in the fifth inning, earning an 11-1 win in the first game of 2026.

GAME TWO
Natalya Salo got the nod in game two, as the sophomore threw four innings with two hits, four runs, and one strikeout.
Abby Greenwood earned the win, tossing three hitless innings with one strikeout.
Gracie Parker led the offensive charge, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and a triple. Following behind was
Addison Lucier with a triple, a double, and two RBI.
Desirae Devine,
Kate Platte,
Kalli Petty, and
Emry Masterson tallied one RBI as well. Devine had a team-high two stolen bases.

Both teams were scoreless after the first inning, but Monmouth hit a grand slam in the second to give the team a 4-0 lead. The Terriers began chipping away at the lead towards the bottom of the inning, as
Desirae Devine drove in a run off a double. Devine would later score from a sacrifice fly by
Emry Masterson to shorten the lead to 4-2. Wofford did not let the Hawks score for the rest of the game. The team was able to tie the game in the fourth inning with back-to-back bunts. Later on in the fifth, Wofford would score five runs.
Addison Lucier doubled to left center to score two runs. That was followed by a triple from
Gracie Parker that drove in another two players.
Kate Platte finished the scoring with an RBI single.
Kaytlin Greenwood secured the last three outs of the game, giving Wofford a 9-4 win. Â

The Terriers will be back in action with another double header tomorrow. The team will take on IU Indy at 3:00 p.m. and Monmouth at 5:30 p.m. Wofford will close out the Terrier Invite on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. against Kent State.
