LEXINGTON, Va. – The Wofford College men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed on Friday and Saturday at the VMI Winter Relays held at the Corps Physical Training Facility. Highlights of the meet included wins in the pole vault by
Olivia Burroughs, the 400 meters by
Zion Bennett, and the 60-meter hurdles by
JaKayla Campbell, along with three school records being broken.
On Friday in the field events,
Patrick Green II was fifth in the long jump with a personal best of 7.05 meters.
Zico Bennett added an eighth-place finish in the event at 6.84 meters.
Olivia Burroughs won the women's pole vault with a personal best of 3.60 meters. In the women's shot put,
Ellie Sawicki was fourth (12.66m) and
Gianna Ortiz was ninth (10.55m). The women's long jump had
Isabelle DuChemin place sixth with a personal best 5.41 meters and
Irene Pardo was seventh at 5.31 meters. Four Terriers placed in the top ten of the women's high jump, with
Ava Cooper fourth (1.60m),
Sherika Christie sixth (1.60m),
Olivia Bagg seventh (1.60m), and Ne"Rya Vassell ninth (1.55m).
On the track on Saturday,
Zion Bennett won the 400 meters in a time of 47.69 to set a new school record. He broke the previous mark of 48.24 set in 2022 by Conor Murphy. In the women's 400 meters,
Taylor Jennings-Ward was second in 55.77 and Elise Elliot was eighth in 58.92.
JaKayla Campbell won the 60-meter hurdles in a school-record time of 8.46, eclipsing the mark of 8.48 set in 2022 by Kerrington Johnons. In the finals of the 60 meters,
Nigel Ransby was fifth for the men in 6.89 and
Ella Tennant was fourth for the women in 7.66.
The women's 800 meters had four Terriers finish in the top ten, as
Brooke Sayre was third (2:19.16),
Ava Dennis was fourth (2:19.41),
Sarah Turner was fifth (2:20.40) and
Kristen Hallman was eighth (2:21.39). In the women's 200 meters,
JaKayla Campbell was second in 24.87 and Elise Elliot was tenth in 25.45.
Ben Beucler took second place in the men's 3,000 meters as he set a school record in 8:40.67. He broke the previous record of 8:44.20 set by
Will Berger last season.
Madeline Smith was second in the women's 3,000 meters in a personal best time of 10:30.60.
In the relays, the women were fifth in the distance medley at 12:47.23. The men took eighth in the 4x400 relay at 3:26.33, while in the women's 4x400 relay the Terriers were second in 3:55.42.
In the Saturday field events,
Ellie Sawicki was sixth at 14.03 meters in the weight throw.
Patrick Green II took second in the triple jump at 14.78 meters. In the men's pole vault,
Joey Swick was fourth at 4.25 meters and
Andrew Botros was tenth at 3.65 meters.
The team scoring of the meet had the Wofford women first with 102.5 points out of the 18 teams competing. The men were sixth out of 18 teams with 41 points.
Wofford will travel to Samford on Friday, Feb. 13, for the Bulldog Invite. The Southern Conference Championship will be held Feb. 27 and 28 at VMI.
