CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – The Wofford College softball team earned an 8-3 win at Chattanooga on Sunday afternoon to clinch the first series of conference play. The Terriers split a doubleheader yesterday before winning the rubber match this afternoon. Wofford improves to 22-5 overall with a 2-1 record in Southern Conference action.

Natalya Salo pitched her fourth complete game of the season in the 8-3 win, improving her record to 6-1. Salo allowed three runs on three hits while striking out four batters.
Rivers Sampson and
Kaytlin Greenwood led the team with two hits apiece. Greenwood,
Desirae Devine,
Gracie Parker, and
Brianna Stanley each tallied one RBI.
Madison Thieke led the team with a career-high two stolen bases. The Terriers out hit Chattanooga 9-5. Neither team had any errors.

Both teams were quiet at the plate to start the game. Wofford broke the stalemate with six runs in the third inning, however.
Lauren Archambault and
Kate Platte started the inning with back-to-back singles to the left side of the field. A sacrifice bunt from
Rivers Sampson advanced the runners.
Desirae Devine doubled on the next at bat to score Archambault, putting Wofford up 1-0.
Brianna Stanley scored Platte after that, and Devine would reach home on a passed ball later on. After
Emry Masterson entered the game to run for
Kalli Petty,
Gracie Parker tripled down the right field line to drive in Masterson and put Wofford up 4-0.
Kaytlin Greenwood followed that up with a single to score Parker. Greenwood would later steal home to give Wofford a 6-0 lead at the end of the inning.

The Terriers held that 6-0 lead all the way up until the bottom of the sixth inning. Chattanooga was able to add three runs in the latter half of the frame, shortening the Wofford lead to 6-3. The Terriers answered, however, scoring two runs in the top of the seventh to seal the victory. After
Kate Platte and
Rivers Sampson reached base to start the inning, a sacrifice bunt from
Desirae Devine advanced the runners to second and third.
Abbi Campbell would pinch run for Platte, scoring on a wild pitch.
Rivers Sampson stole home after that, putting Wofford up 8-3. The Terriers kept Chattanooga scoreless in the bottom of the seventh, securing an 8-3 win to clinch the series.

Wofford has will continue its eight-game road stint with a trip to Elon and North Carolina on March 24-25. The Terriers will travel to Mercer this weekend for a three-game series to close out the road games.
