CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Wofford College softball team fell 10-7 to the North Carolina Tar Heels on Wednesday evening. The Terriers went back-and-forth with the Tar Heels, including a bases loaded situation in the top of the seventh inning with the go-ahead run at bat. Wofford falls to 23-6 on the season.

Abby Greenwood started the game off, pitching 2.0 innings. Greenwood allowed one run on two hits.
Margaret Axelson took the loss, dropping her record to 5-4 on the year.
Natalya Salo pitched in the fourth inning, giving up zero runs on one hit.
Maddie Berry and
Sydney Baker tossed the fifth and sixth innings, respectively. Neither player gave up an earned run. Leading the way offensively was
Brianna Stanley who went 3-of-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Gracie Parker followed behind with a 2-of-4 appearance, including a two-run homer for her first career home run.
Rivers Sampson,
Desirae Devine, and
Lucy Cameron each recorded an RBI as well.
Kaytlin Greenwood and
Rivers Sampson each recorded a stolen base. The two teams finished with 10 hits apiece, but Wofford committed four errors compared to one from UNC.

The Tar Heels got on the board in the bottom of the first inning, putting Wofford down 1-0 early on. Neither team scored in the second inning, but the Terriers were able to score four runs in the top of the third.
Kate Platte got the frame started with a single to left field, and
Kaytlin Greenwood followed that up with another single through the right side.
Rivers Sampson would drive in Platte with a single up the middle to tie the game at one-all. On the next at bat,
Brianna Stanley scored both Greenwood and Sampson with a hit to right field. After pinch running for
Brianna Stanley,
Madison Thieke would eventually score off a
Desirae Devine infield single to put Wofford up 4-1.

UNC responded, however, scoring seven runs in the third inning to take an 8-4 lead. Both teams were scoreless in the fourth inning. In the top of the fifth, Wofford was able to score two more runs to cut the lead to 8-6.
Brianna Stanley started the inning with a single to centerfield.
Gracie Parker would later hit her first career home run with a two-run shot to center field. The Tar Heels added two more runs in the bottom half of the frame to further the lead to 10-6. In the seventh, Wofford loaded the bases with one out. The Terriers were only able to score one run, however, falling 10-7 to the Tar Heels.

Wofford will be back on the road this weekend as the team travels to Macon, Georgia, to take on Mercer March 28-29. All games can be streamed on ESPN+.
