Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- A pair of goals in the second half, following a scoreless opening 45 minutes, gave visiting College of Charleston a 2-0 victory against Wofford in Southern Conference men's soccer action Tuesday evening at Snyder Field in Spartanburg, S.C.
The Terriers employed an offensive attack in the first half which kept the Cougars off-balance, as the defenders and goalkeeper would often times send the ball deep into the CofC zone for the forwards to run onto it. The strategy paid off in the opening frame as Wofford (4-10-1, 0-6 SoCon) outshot Charleston, 8-7, entering the half. Freshmen Armin Kinigadner and Kentrel Owens, and sophomore Philips Leach each had chances to put the Terriers on the board.
In the second stanza, College of Charleston (9-4-1, 3-1 SoCon) tacked the first mark on the scoreboard at 60:45 when Matt Morris crossed the ball to Kareem Yearwood on the left side of the 18-yard box. Yearwood kept the ball to the near post on his shot past Wofford goalkeeper Joey Taylor.
The Cougars then added another tally at 77:54 when Zach Prince found Wes Knight in the right corner. Knight then crossed to Drew Fuzy, who slipped the ball past Taylor for the game's final score.
Junior Phil Beene had a couple chances to put the Terriers on the board in the second half, including a shot barely missing the left post, but he could not capitalize.
Wofford will return to action with a 1 p.m. Saturday match at Davidson in Davidson, N.C. The contest will conclude the Terriers' regular-season road slate and also their Southern Conference schedule.
