Box Score DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Wofford jumped out to a 1-0 lead but could not hold off host Davidson as the Wildcats rallied for a 2-1 overtime victory in Southern Conference men's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium in Davidson, N.C.
The Terriers, playing in their final Southern Conference and road match of the season, put the first mark on the scoreboard at 59:41 when junior Callum Easter forced a turnover, then beat a couple Davidson (4-10-1, 2-3-1 SoCon) defenders before placing the ball high into the net behind Matt McElroy. It was his second goal of the season.
The Wildcats then scored the equalizer as Tom Lavan one-touched a cross from Aaron West at 76:20. Both teams had various other chances to add to their score but the teams ended regulation deadlocked.
As the clock ticked under a minute remaining in the first overtime frame, West sent a corner kick to the near post. His attempt hit off the head of a Wofford (4-11-1, 0-7 SoCon) defender, who was attempting to clear the ball, but instead it trickled into the net for an own goal and a Davidson triumph at 99:22.
Lavan led all players with four shots, while freshman Kentrel Owens paced the Terriers with three.
Wofford will return to Snyder Field for a three-game homestand to conclude the regular season. The Terriers begin the trio of non-conference matches at 6 p.m. Friday against Lipscomb as part of the South Carolina/Tennessee Challenge.
