Box Score Box Score

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Wofford battled for 90 minutes and only surrendered one goal in dropping a hard-fought 1-0 decision to Clemson Tuesday night in non-conference men's soccer action at Snyder Field in Spartanburg, S.C. The final score marked the closest match in the nine-game series, dating back to 1985.

Wofford (4-9) displayed a full team commitment in its attempt to tally the first win against the Tigers since the two teams began playing each other. The Terriers won the overall shots battle, holding a slim 14-12 advantage, but Clemson was on top, 5-4, in shots on goal.

The hosts held the Tigers off the scoreboard for 80 minutes until Keegan Priest collected his second goal of the season at 80:41. Teammates Tommy Drake and Eric Cava played the ball back-and-forth amongst themselves before sending the ball wide along the left flank to Priest. Priest dribbled towards the 18-yard box and let a shot rip from roughly 20 yards out to the far right corner past Wofford goalkeeper Joey Taylor.

The Terriers, however, did not quit and kept pressure on the Clemson (4-5-2) net until the final horn sounded.

Sophomore Wilson Hood led all players with five shots, while senior Phil Beene added three to the Wofford offensive attack.

Cava paced the Tigers with three, while Drank, Nick Burton and Hassan Ibrahim tallied two apiece.

Joseph Bendik gathered three saves in the shutout for Clemson. The Tigers' defense was credited with a team save after clearing a second-half attempt off the backline.

Taylor finished with four saves, three of which came during the opening 45 minutes.

Wofford will return to Southern Conference action with a 6 p.m. Saturday meeting with Upstate rival Furman at Snyder Field in the second of a current four-game homestand.
