SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford men’s tennis fought hard to win Tuesday afternoon over Coastal Carolina 4-3 at the Reeves Tennis Center.

The Chanticleers started the match claiming the doubles point by winning two out of the three doubles matches. The one match won by the Terriers came by an 8-5 victory at the No. 1 spot by the duo of senior Andrew Stubbs and sophomore George Kernodle over Plamen Tzvetkov and Ernesto Ramos.

After facing each other in doubles competition, Stubbs and Ramos met again at the No. 1 singles slot. Stubbs defeated Ramos 6-1, 6-4.

Junior Scott Collins saw action at the No. 3 spot beating Plamen Tzvetkov 6-0, 6-4.

Sophomore Christopher Williams completed the match victorious at the No. 5 slot winning 6-4, 6-3 over Carlo Checchia.

Freshman Paul Bartholomy battled for the win at the No. 6 position against Joseph Withers clinching a 7-6, 1-6, 6-4 Wofford match victory. 

“Overall, today’s match was a good experience for us," said head coach Rod Ray. “I like Coastal’s team and the amount of enthusiasm they played with today. It was certainly a hard tested 4-3 match and we had to grow in order to win. Paul battled hard to win the deciding match and that was a great opportunity for him. Andrew, Christopher and Scott also had nice wins to today against good players. We are looking forward to another tough match against a strong High Point team on Friday.” 

The Terriers will visit High Point, N.C. Friday for a 1 p.m. match against the High Point Panthers. Wofford will then return to the Reeves Tennis Center Sunday against Yale to get underway three straight matches to be played at home.
