SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men’s tennis team dominated on the courts of the Reeves Tennis Center Wednesday afternoon defeating Presbyterian College, 6-1.
In singles action, senior Andrew Stubbs clinched a 6-0, 6-2 victory defeating Matthew Martin while competing at the No. 1 position.
Junior Scott Collins beat Patrick Fediuk 6-4, 6-3 and captured his first win at the No. 2 spot.
Freshman Alan Donald also collected his first win at the No. 3 singles slot with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Andrew Lee.
Freshman Paul Bartholomy finished the match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Mark Cannatelli at No. 5.
At the No. 6 position, freshman Michael Schecter recorded his first win of the season beating Brad Luciuk 6-3, 6-3.
The Terriers notched the doubles point after battling for victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 slots. Collins and senior Richard Cahi teamed up at the No. 2 spot and defeated Luciuk and Henry Walker 9-8. The Terrier duo of Donald and sophomore Christopher Williams secured the doubles point with a win at No. 3 over Fediuk and Adam Herendeen also by a score of 9-8.
“Presbyterian has a nice team,” said head coach Rod Ray. “We had to give a good effort today to win. I am proud of our team as we came to play today. In particular, Andrew was very sharp today and Scott and Alan both played with great confidence in key situations.”
Wofford’s next match will be played at home at the Reeves Tennis Center on Monday at 1 p.m. against The Citadel Bulldogs in the Terriers’ first conference matchup of the season.
