Baseball Defeats Davidson 13-4

DAVIDSON, NC – The Wofford College baseball team picked up a 13-4 win over Davidson on Friday evening at Wilson Field. The Terriers scored four runs in the seventh and three in the ninth to secure the road win.

Wofford is now 16-8 on the season and 2-2 in the Southern Conference, while Davidson is 7-14 and 0-4 in the conference. The Terriers were led Mo Seay and Jake Williams, each with a home run and five RBIs. Scott Summers went 7.0 innings with five strikeouts.

The Wildcats scored first on a solo home run by Zach Kayne in the bottom of the first. Wofford answered in the second inning with a double by Kyle Behrendt. Josh McKinney reached on an error, which scored Behrendt. Emre Caglayan reached on an error as well, which scored McKinney and gave the Terriers a 2-1 lead.

In the top of the third, the Terriers added another run when Michael Gilmartin reached on a double and was driven in with a single by Mo Seay for a 3-1 lead. Davidson got one run back in the bottom of the third, but Jake Williams made a spectacular catch at the fence for the final out of the inning with two men on base to make it a 3-2 game.

For Wofford in the fifth, Michael Gilmartin reached on a hit by pitch. After some adventures in fielding and base running, Mo Seay drove in Gilmartin with a single. Davidson also scored a run in the fifth, with a lead-off double from Hugh Eden and an RBI single by Zach Kayne for a 4-3 ballgame.

The Terriers added a run in the top of the sixth when a single by Jake Williams drove in Josh McKinney for a 5-3 lead. Danny Weiss lead off for the Wildcats with a home run to left center to make it 5-4 after six full innings.

Wofford broke things open in the top of the seventh when Mo Seay hit a two run homer to centerfield. Keith Munns and Josh McKinney also crossed the plate for the Terriers to go up 9-4. Michael Gilmartin led off the eighth with a double and scored on a fly ball by Shane Kirkley. Jake Williams added a three run shot over the left field wall to give Wofford a 13-4 lead in the top of the ninth.

The start of the game was delayed for 45 minutes due to lightning in the area.

Wofford will continue the conference series with Davidson at 2:00 pm on Saturday and 1:00 pm on Sunday. After a two-game series at top-ranked Arizona State on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Terriers return home on April 4 for a three-game series against The Citadel.
