SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After beginning the season down 0-2 in conference play, the Wofford men’s tennis squad picked up their third straight league win Sunday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center, as the Terriers defeated SoCon foe the College of Charleston 5-2.

Wofford (9-8, 3-2 SoCon) captured the first point of the match as they claimed the doubles point over the Cougars (6-13, 1-6 SoCon) in two matches of three. At the No. 1 spot, the duo of senior Andrew Stubbs and sophomore George Kernodle defeated Omar Abramovich and Steven Myers 8-5. Senior Richard Cahi and freshman Paul Bartholomy teamed up at the No. 2 position and beat teammates Joe Nicolazzi and Mickael Boyer 8-6.

In singles action, Stubbs captured a victory at the No. 1 slot over Abramovich as he retired during the second set already down 6-3, 2-0.

Freshman Alan Donald snapped a four match losing streak with a 3-6, 6-4, 10-5 come-from-behind win over Joe Nicolazzi at the No. 3 position.

At the No. 4 spot, junior Scott Collins notched a 6-4, 6-0 victory against Steven Myers.

Freshman Paul Bartholomy extended his undefeated conference streak to five wins with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Christopher Carlton at the No. 5 position.

“I was very impressed with the depth of Charleston’s team,” commented head coach Rod Ray after the match. “Every player on their team is talented and they are well coached. No doubt today’s effort was a good win for our team. I thought our players did an excellent job. The weather is supposed to be nice by now, but today it was cold and dreary and our guys really wanted to compete.”

The Terriers will travel to Chattanooga, Tenn., for a 2 p.m. match Tuesday against league opponent the Chattanooga Mocs.
