SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Tuesday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center, the Wofford men’s tennis team recognized seniors Richard Cahi and Andrew Stubbs prior to capturing a 5-2 victory over Southern Conference foe Appalachian State in the Terriers home finale of the 2008 season.

Wofford started the match clinching the doubles point winning two matches out of three. At the No. 1 spot, Stubbs teamed up with sophomore George Kernodle and defeated Bobby Lake and Trent Constance 8-6. At No.3, freshman Alan Donald and sophomore Christopher Williams defeated Ryan Brookshaw and David Doverspike 8-5.

Performing in dominating fashion in the final home match of his collegiate career, Stubbs logged a new career high singles record in a season with his 13th win. He beat Lake 6-1, 6-3 while at the No. 1 position.

While competing at the No. 2 singles slot, Kernodle captured a 6-1, 6-3 victory as he defeated Brookshaw.

Junior Scott Collins recorded his fourth consecutive victory with a 3-6, 6-2, 10-7 come-from-behind victory against Lee Floyd at the No 4 spot.

Williams claimed a 6-0, 6-4 victory at the No. 6 position against the Mountaineers’ Doverspike.

“Organized is how I would describe today’s winning effort against a tough App State,” said head coach Rod Ray after the Terriers’ victory. “We were organized with our thoughts and emotions and showed great discipline in what we knew was going to be a close match against two competitive teams. We always have close matches with Appalachian and today was no different. I thought our doubles play was solid and several guys stepped up to make some key singles wins.”

The Terriers will travel to Greenville, S.C., Thursday for a 3 p.m. Southern Conference contest against the Furman Paladins.
