SPARTANBURG,  S.C.- The Wofford women’s basketball team outscored Georgia Southern in the Second half by eight points but was unable to climb out of a 30 point halftime deficit as they fell to the Eagles 70-48 on Monday night in Statesboro, Ga.   The Terriers were led by Natalie Gramblin who tallied 11 points while going a perfect six for six at the foul line.
Georgia Southern took the lead just 15 seconds into the contest and never trailed for the remainder of the game. The Terriers got on the board with a Mahagony Williams lay-up that was soon followed by a Gramblin basket at the 16:28 mark. However Wofford would not find the basket again until the 11:28 mark in which the Eagles had already pushed the advantage to 22-6. Georgia Southern would continue to take advantage of poor shooting by the Terriers and take a 43-13 lead into the halftime break.
Georgia Southern shot 50 percent from the floor going 18 of 36 while the Terriers shot  13.2 percent making only four of its thirty attempts.
In the second half both teams continued to trade baskets, thus allowing the Eagles to maintain its thirty point edge. However, the Terriers did not go away and kept fighting to the wire as they put on a mini run in the final six minutes capped off by an Ashley Kroker three pointer to get within 18. In the end the Terriers outscored the Eagles in the second half 35-27.
The Terriers shot 33.3 percent in the second half and 22.8 percent for the game while the Eagles only shot 33 percent in the second half and 42 percent for the game. Wofford did fare well at the foul line shooting 17 of 23 at the foul line good enough for 73 percent.
Wofford was led by Gramblin who totaled 11 points while Kroker and Liz Miller both chipped in seven apiece. On the glass Williams grabbed six rebounds as did freshman April Moorhouse. The Eagles were led by  J’Lisia Ogburn who scored 17 points and Brittany Nelson who added ten rebounds.
With the loss the Terriers fall to 3-12 overall and 1-6 in the Southern Conference while Georgia Southern improves to 10-7 overall and 5-3 in conference play. The Terriers return to action Saturday inside the Benjamin Johnson arena at 3 p.m. against the Cougars of the College of Charleston.
