Track & Field Teams Set School Records at SoCon Indoor Championship

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Wofford men’s and women’s track and field teams set seven school records while competing in the 2010 Southern Conference Indoor Championships Thursday and Friday.

The men’s team, which scored three points during competition, was led by senior Paul Vecchione and freshman Trey Parker. Vecchione recorded a school record time of 2:01.57 in the 800m event, finishing 17th overall. Parker finished the 5000m run in a school record time of 15:24.94, good for 15th individually.

Joined by Elias Conits and Phillip Spencer, Parker and Vecchione also helped set a school mark in the 4x400m relay, notching a time of 3:35.61 and finishing seventh.

Freshman Brian McCracken was named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman team for his performance in the shot put.

On the women’s side, freshman Andrea Kelsey continued her standout year by breaking two of her own school records. In the 3000m run, Kelsey beat her previous record by almost 10 seconds, finishing in a time of 10:29.36 and claiming 10th place. In the 5000m run, Kelsey recorded a school-record time of 18:23.53 and finished 12th.

The team of Niki Klasnic, Caroline Burdette, Caitlin Dodd and Emily Gothberg also made a place for themselves in the Terrier record books, recording a time of 4:20.98 in the 4x400m relay. The Terrier distance medley team also set a school record, finishing in a time of 12:51.50.

Freshman Andrea Kelsey was named to the Southern Conference Women's All-Freshman team for her performance in the 5000 meter run.

The track and field teams will open the outdoor season March 20 at the 49er Classic hosted by UNC Charlotte in Charlotte, N.C.
