Terriers Come Back to Defeat UNC Charlotte

Spartanburg, S.C. - The Wofford men’s tennis team overcame an early deficit to defeat UNC Charlotte by a score of 5-2. With the victory the Terriers improve to 4-5 on the year while UNC Charlotte drops to 1-7.
UNC Charlotte was able to jump out to an early lead in the match by winning two of the three doubles matches. After doubles play the 49ers had a 1-0 advantage. The Terriers responded by winning five out of the six singles matches to win the match 5-2.
Tinus Van Wyk got things started for the Terriers by winning his number one singles match over Moritz Bernhoerster 6-2, 7-5. Stuart Robertson won a hard fought match versus C. Martin- Lecamp at number two singles by a score of 7-5, 7-5. Alan Donald won his number three singles match against Michael Anders by a score of 6-3, 6-4. Team Captain Paul Bartholomy clinched the match for Wofford with a victory at number four singles over Jessie Hutchinson 6-4, 6-4. UNC Charlotte won the number five singles match when Anthony Davison defeated Drew Superstein 6-2, 6-4. In the final match of the day Michael Schecter defeated Chris Huynh 6-2, 6-1.
After the match Wofford Head Coach Rod Ray said “After losing a disappointing and close doubles point on the road, I am very proud of the maturity and toughness that we showed in fighting back in singles. There are some areas where we can improve, but our effort was good. Charlotte has a good team and this was a good win for us”.
The Terriers will be back in action on Sunday, March 7 when they will travel to Statesboro, Georgia to take on Southern Conference foe Georgia Southern at noon.
