Spartanburg, S.C. – The Wofford women’s team had an early lead but could not close out Davidson on Wednesday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center. Davidson went on to win the match 6-1. The loss ends the Terriers tough 2010 season with a record of 1-21 and 0-10 in the Southern Conference. Davidson improves to 14-6 and 6-2 in the Southern Conference.
For the first time all season the Terriers won the doubles point to take a key 1-0 advantage. Stephanie Cox and Sonia Anand got things started for Wofford by winning their number three doubles match against Ail Gores and Samantha Galainena 8-6.
Haley Baird and Guinn Garcia clinched the doubles point with a gutsy victory at number one doubles over Virginia Berry and Teresa Wang. The match went back and forth for over an hour before a tie breaker was needed to break the 8-8 tie. Baird and Garcia won the tie breaker 8-6 to give Wofford a 9-8 victory.
In singles action Davidson rallied and swept all six singles matches on their way to a 6-1 victory.
