GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Arden Anderson and Stacy Byrd paced the Wofford College women’s volleyball team with nine and a half total points as the Terriers swept North Carolina A&T 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-22) Tuesday night in the Corbett Sports Center.
Anderson recorded her nine and a half total points on six kills with a .600 hitting percentage. She also added a solo block and three block assists to reach her point total. Byrd had nine kills and a block assists for her nine and half points.
In set one, Wofford took a quick 10-4 lead. The Aggies cut the lead to 11-8, but Wofford took control of the set not letting North Carolina A&T get within three points as they won 25-18. Byrd led the attack with six of her nine kills in the opening set. The Terriers hit .345 in the set, while holding the Aggies to .091.
In set two, the two teams traded points until the score was tied 11-11. An Aggies attack error and a kill by Amanda Liguori gave the Terriers a 13-11 lead. Wofford finished the set with a 12-3 run to take the set 25-16.
With the Terriers down 5-2 in the third set, two Melissa Kearse kills and an Anderson kill tied the match at five. The Aggies then broke an 8-8 tie with a 10-6 run as they took an 18-14. However, Wofford would rally. An Anderson kill made the match 19-16 and sent Kearse back to serve for the Terriers. Kearse served nine consecutive points with three service aces. When the Aggies finally broke her streak the Terriers held a 24-20 lead. Anderson ended the set three points later with a kill as Wofford won the set 25-22 to earn the three-set match sweep. Both teams had their best hitting percentages of the match as Wofford outhit North Carolina A&T .571 to .217.
Rachel Woodlee added eight kills and a .538 hitting percentage. Wendy Burnette and Catelyn Amende had six kills apiece. Kearse collected five service aces, and Reagan Styles picked up ten digs. Bekah Dorsey and Tara Gough handed out 18 and 17 assists apiece for the Terriers.
Wofford improves to 10-7 overall as they prepare for a eight-match Southern Conference slate beginning Friday when they host Georgia Southern at 7 p.m. in Ben Johnson Arena.
