Southern Intercollegiate Draws
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The men’s tennis program will be splitting into two groups this weekend, traveling to two separate tournaments. Coach Ray’s athletes will be participating in the Southern Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by the University of Georgia and the Gardner-Webb Invitational in Boiling Springs, N.C.
The Southern Intercollegiate Tournament will be held in Athens, Ga. This year’s tournament will be the 43rd annual Southern Intercollegiate Championships, and is the oldest fall college tennis tournament in America. Tinus Van Wyk, Stuart Robertson, Michael Schecter, Alan Donald, Paul Bartholomy, and Drew Superstein are set to compete in the prestigious tournament. The tournament boasts a number of quality tennis schools and includes 34 institutions from the south, consisting of: Alabama, UAB, Campbell, Central Florida, Chattanooga, College of Charleston, Davidson, Eastern Kentucky, East Tennessee State, Elon, Florida, Georgia, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech, Liberty, Lipscomb, LSU, Memphis, Mercer, Miami, Middle Tennessee State, UNC Wilmington, Radford, Samford, South Carolina, South Florida, Stetson, Tennessee, Tennessee Tech, Vanderbilt, and Winthrop.

After playing in the Upstate Fall Classic, the Coach Ray and his team are ready to get back on the courts and post positive results throughout the weekend. Coach Ray commented, “I am excited to have guys going to two tournaments this weekend. Both the Southern Intercollegiate at UGA and the Gardner –Webb Invitational will be a good test for us. With last weekend’s tournament under the belt, we need to be productive in the competitive arena.”
The rest of the team, including Peter Elbaum, Thomas Fanjoy, Elliott Farmer, Joey Francis, Randall Heffron, Manoli Lakis, Zac Landy, Jack Seiffert, Matthew Shemanski, and Tom Wood, will be participating in the Gardner-Webb Invitational hosted by the Runnin’ Bulldogs. The tournament is scheduled to last the entire weekend, and will include a variety of matchups for the tennis players.
