SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Both the men’s and women’s tennis programs are set to begin their 2011 campaigns this Saturday, January 15th. The men will travel to Clemson, S.C. to face the Clemson Tigers at 9:00 a.m. The women will travel to Rock Hill, S.C. to face the Winthrop Eagles at 3:00 p.m.

Men’s head coach Rod Ray is ready to extend the fall success his team showed under the leadership of three senior captains, Alan Donald, Michael Schecter and Paul Bartholomy. “The team has done a good job of preparing this year and deserves to be excited,” commented Coach Ray. “We have made progress in many significant areas and have a foundation in place where we should continue to improve as the season unfolds. This weekend we will hold ourselves accountable to a few simple, but important goals. I really like this team and I am looking forward to helping us become a really good team.”

The women’s squad brings back a lot of court experience from the 2010 season and looks toward Haley Baird and Emilia Milovanovic for senior leadership this year. After a very promising fall season the team looks toward the season opener against the Winthrop Eagles. Head coach Katie Hangstefer commented, “We are excited to be starting our season. The team has worked very hard all fall and we’re looking forward to what this 2011 season hold for us.”
