Kessler, Burkert Earn All-Freshman Honors at SoCon Indoor Championship Meet

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Katie Kessler smashed the women’s 800m school record and earned Southern Conference All-Freshman Team with her performance at the SoCon Indoor Track and Field Championships as the Wofford Terriers finished in eighth on the men’s side and 11th on the women’s side in the two-day meet at the Clemson Indoor Track.

Kessler, ran a 2:16.89 smashing the previous school record by just under five seconds in the 800m prelims on Saturday.  On Sunday she turned in a time of 2:19.47 to finish in seventh place and earn the all-freshman nod and to earn the Terriers only scored points in the meet.

In the women’s mile, Alyssa Burkert also earned All-Freshman Team honors with a school record 5:18.86.  She broke the record by over five seconds with her time.

Kaitlin Brown also took home all-freshman honors for the Terriers in the high jump with a height of 1.55m.

In the women’s 4x400m relay Kessler, Burkert, Caitlin Dodd and Emily Gothberg broke a school record with a time of 4:07.17.

Tiffani Beebe set a school record in the pole vault with a height of 3.05m to round out the meet on the women’s side.

For the men, the squad got three points from the 4x400m team of Phillip Spencer, Trey Parker, Chase Wolfe and Chase West as they turned in a school record performance of 3:32.04.  Parker, West, Wolfe and Mavrick Harris scored two points in the distance medley relay with a time of 10:50.46 also setting a Wofford school record.  

In the high jump, Joe Bailey set a school record by clearing a 1.90m bar, and Mike McCrimon set a school mark with a triple jump of 13.95m.  

The meet ends the Terriers indoor season with the outdoor season beginning March 12at the Palmetto Classic in Charleston, S.C.
