Women’s Tennis Picks Up a 7-0 Win Over King College

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The women’s team grabbed their second win of the young season, defeating King College 7-0. The Terriers defeated the Tornado in every match, picking up each doubles and singles win. The win gives the team a 2-1 record on the season. The match was King College’s first match of the season and the loss drops them to 0-1.

The Terriers pushed their match win streak to 18, after winning every doubles and singles match in the previous win against North Carolina A&T. Wofford took control of the match early, picking up the doubles point. Sarah Evans and Julia Paulson were the first off the courts with an 8-0 win against Brittany Freund and Nerece Stoltz. Meagan Laframboise and Lucy Schermerhorn mirrored the same result at the No. 3 spot, defeating Karissa King and Eden Sherrod 8-0. Haley Baird and Garcia continued the win streak, topping the King College’s No. 1 pair Sarah Anderson and Virginie Brioschi, 8-2.

Emilia “Frenchie” Milovanovic continued her unbeaten streak in singles, beating Anderson 6-1, 6-0, giving the senior a 3-0 record in singles on the season at the No. 1 slot. Stephanie Cox was next off the courts, sweeping past her competition, King, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 position. The win gives Cox her first singles victory of the season.

Senior Haley Baird confirmed the win after beating her opposition, Stoltz, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot. Garcia continued the winning trend, beating Brioschi 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 1 position. Schermerhorn grabbed her second singles win of the season, defeating Freund 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 5 spot. Samantha Sullivan picked up the first singles win of her tennis career at the No. 6 position after pushing past Sherrod 6-0, 6-1. The Terriers won each match in straight sets on the day.

The women’s team will be traveling to Colorado Springs, Colorado for the next three matches. The Terriers are competing in a tournament and will face opposition from Colorado State, Air Force and South Dakota. The first match is set to begin at 8:00 am, February 12th against Colorado State.
