SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The women’s tennis team suffered their first conference loss of the season against the Furman Paladins, Tuesday afternoon. The Terriers traveled to Mickel Tennis Center and fell to the Paladins, 7-0.
The loss drops Coach Hangstefer’s team to a 10-7 record and a 2-1 Southern Conference standing. Furman breaks a four game losing skid with the victory, improving to 5-8 (2-0 SoCon).
Emilia Milvanovic and Haley Baird had the lone victory of the match for the Terriers at the No. 1 doubles spot. The duo defeated Margaret Boyette and Lauren Kline. The Paladins would go on to win the No. 2 and No. 3 matches in doubles, securing the doubles point.
In singles, Milovanovic lost to Furman’s Monica Arguello 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 and Haley Baird was defeated 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 by Kline. At the No. 3 spot, Sarah Evans lost to Boyette 6-2, 6-3 and Furman’s Amanda Murray beat Julia Paulson 6-3, 6-2. In the final two positions, Lucy Schermerhorn lost to Michele Stanford 6-4, 6-1 and Furman’s Jennifer Betts defeated Meagan Laframboise 6-2, 6-0.
The Terriers will stay on the road for their next conference match against Chattanooga. The match is set to start at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26th.
