Five Terriers Earn All-Freshman Honors at the SoCon Championship Track and Field Meet

BIRMINGHAM, ALA. -- The Wofford men’s and women’s track and field teams ended their season at the Southern Conference Championship Meet with 17 points and two points for eighth and 11th place respectively over the two-day event.

The men’s track and field team’s 17 point was the most points scored in the Southern Conference Championship Meet since they scored 30 points in 2005.

On the men’s side, Stephon Shelton took 12th in the 100m dash with a time of 11.05 to earn SoCon All-Freshman honors.

Mike McCrimon took third in the long jump with a distance of 6.83m earning him All-Freshman honors. McCrimon also took seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 13.30m.

In the high jump Joe Bailey finished in sixth place with a height of 1.95m.  

Andy Vess cracked the top ten with a distance of 51.26m in the javelin to earn him eighth place.

The 4x400m team of Phillip Spencer, Chase Wolfe, Trey Parker and Chase West set a new school record with a time of 3:28.90 to finish in seventh place.

For the women, Carly Egan earned All-Freshman honors with a time of 19:15.93 in the 5,000m. Egan doubled up with another All-Freshman performance in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:51.18.

Kaitlin Brown earned SoCon All-Freshman with a 1.60m jump in the high jump to finish tied for seventh and snapped a Wofford school record.

In the 4x400m team of Katie Kessler, Caitlin Dodd, Alyssa Burket and Emily Gothberg set a new school record with a time of 4:06.66 and finished in eighth place.

Kessler finished in 13th with a time of 2:17.65 for a school record in the 800m.
